End of the World in 8 days! Hadron Collider is switched on

Hadron collider eight days left

Only 8 days and counting until the Hadron Collider (LHC), the most powerful experiment ever built, will be switched on. Could this be the beginning of the end, or the start of a new dawning for humanity and science!

Dubbed by some as the Doomsday test, the Hadron Collider cost £4.billion to create, it spans some 17 miles deep under the French-Swiss border, and it is the largest atom smasher ever built. It is claimed that it could help discover the Higgs-Boson particle, or more aptly named the God particle. However, there is a more sinister side to the Hadron Collider. The what if scenario…

DOOMSDAY FEARS SPARK LAWSUIT OVER HADRON COLLIDER

Doomsday Hadron Collider LHCThe worlds largest particle collider - The Hadron Collider (LHC) is encountering yet more delays. This time not by technical issues, but by the strong arm of the law - the US federal court of law.

Builders and contributors of the Hadron Collider, situated in France and Switzerland are being sued and taken to a federal court in the USA over fears that the experiment could create mini-black holes, strangelets, or even discover the Higgs-Boson particle (God particle) right here on Earth.

If black holes are created, then two Hawaii residents: - Wagner and Sancho who filed the lawsuit, believe that the Hadron Collider could ultimately destroy our planet.

Will this Lord of the Rings leviathan ever be switched on? Or, will the Hadron Collider which has cost over $8.2 billion US dollars to build, be one of the most costly mistakes the scientific community has ever embarked upon!

What do you think? Have you ever heard of one of the most magnificent devices mankind has ever created - the Hadron Collider? Is it really a doomsday device, or is it simply the next step in helping to understand our Universe! Share your thoughts.

New Scientist magazine adopts the view that the particle viewer is not a threat to Earth. Read more - Particle smasher ‘not a threat to the Earth’.
