Today I asked my 8 year old nephew, Callum; what is the meaning of life? A heavy question to ask one so young, however it is a great exercise in helping create an abstract mind in one so young and to help expand a child’s horizons for critical thinking and increase their boundaries for logical cognitive reasoning and ultimately master the eloquent art of debating.
The reply I received from Callum was as eloquent as the question posed. He told me that the meaning of life is ‘to please God’, an obvious answer for a child attending a Catholic school I guess. I wonder what the response would be to such a profound question from a child who was taught all the doctrines of religion; Buddhism, Catholicism, polytheism, atheism, and indeed paganism to name but a few.
