What…
So what is carbon-free energy. Let’s begin by explaining some common applications; wind turbines, wave energy, reservoirs, hydrogen fuel, solar farms, carbon-neutral energy carriers such as ethanol or bio-diesel, and even nuclear power. These are just some examples of carbon-free renewable energy. The purpose of all these methods is to combat the increase in greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our impact on the environment as a whole.
Coal plants are another candidate for the accolade of ‘carbon-free renewable energy’. However coal plants that sequester their carbon end up having the biggest carbon footprint, mostly because not all the carbon-dioxide gets captured before it enters the atmosphere. Nuclear power turns out to be the second-most carbon intensive.
There is a multitude of umbrella terms and pubic relations terms being used to promote the wonderful world of ‘carbon-free renewable energy’. One such umbrella term is ‘clean coal‘. Now if ever there was a funny oxymoron term, then ‘clean coal’ has to take the prize.
Other ridiculous oxymoron’s include; United Nations, virtual reality, clearly misunderstood, found missing, Microsoft works, and political promise to name but a few.
When…
‘Clean coal’ is a method which promotes the use of coal as an energy source by emphasizing methods being developed to reduce its environmental impact. The irony is that that there are currently no commercial-scale clean coal power stations (coal-burning power stations with carbon capture and sequestration) currently available until the year 2020 or 2025. If we’re still here by then; ref Dec 21 2012.
Either way, advocates of ‘clean coal’ such as Osama Bin Bama and his bunch of merry men promote this ugly term without discourse, for the simple purpose of feeding his flock BS when it comes to offering promises of a cleaner and alternative energy future for his loyal voters. The real truth is that the process of ‘clean coal’ is simply the process of transferring one waste stream to another, and hiding the truth… Coal is a dirty fuel. Period.
So the question we must ask ourselves is… ‘Can we really expect to live in ‘carbon-free’ world any time soon? The answer unfortunately is rather disappointing. It seems our political representatives aren’t too quick on the uptake. Within a corpocracy world, we have little chance of being offered anything with the term ‘free’ in it.
Who is responsible and Why…
In July 2008 the price of crude oil reached record highs of over US$140 per barrel. Now we see crude oil at $35 per barrel. Have these changes in prices been reflected to the market. Have they hell. When the price of oil goes up, petrol prices rise sharply. It’s funny that when we see oil go down, we see a sluggish reduction in petrol prices. Is this not proof enough that the oligarchs and the corporations control the way we consume our energy needs.
It is not the politicians who run this world, but the corporations and businesses. We have been turned into a society of gluttonous, materialistic consumers under the guise of a Freudian regime set up in the 1920’s. See Century of Self – a must watch documentary.
We won’t see a carbon-free renewable energy world until such methods of money and control have been removed from society all together.
It is time the people stood up to these bully boys and said, enough is enough.

I agree, The price of oil is only going to go up in the long term but it is a comodity that is played by the market men. There are shares and comodities that are just toys.
The problem that caused the reduction in the price of oil was (in my opinion) the credit crunch. If you’re a futures oil trader you gamble against the price you think/hope oil will be. Tankers get traded countless times before they arrive and sometimes change directions too. But if you were a trader would you trade with your own money? Me neither. Id borrow it from banks and fund managers. Problem today is, they won’t lend money out anymore unless it’s a good deal and stocks and comodities are never that safe. So the traders can’t buy the oil and ramp the price up to sell it off again.
So.. A fall in (pretend) demand equals a fall in price. I only have what i read to back that up and some experience in the oil industry. But it’s what i suspect is true. At least in part.

Nuclear power is not renewable! It produces waste that is not be reused afterwards. Except for making nuclear weapons that only are used to produce fear and control. It needs to be stored for 250.000 years at least. Some waste will still be dangerous until our sun becomes a supernova.
It isn’t even carbon-free. Building nuclear power stations require gigantic amounts of carbon. So does the production of the uranium. And so does keeping the waste safe.
Green wash!
I agree we need to get rid of our ‘leaders’: the corporations. Lets start by not giving them our money and stop giving politicians our votes.

Hi Friend,
Agree with every word you typed. The bottomline you draw is something I have also been trying to put forward in my blog. Its a fact that we live in a world which is controlled by ……….. BUT its WE, the COMMON PERSON, who “DOESN’T CARE” about the SYSTEM. Just a month back US CITIZENS voted for “DEMOREP” who have just been doing favours to their patrons for decades if not centuries. They DID have an ALTERNATIVE, BUT, they DON’T CARE.
I particularly liked your term “Osama Bin Obama”
though I’m not particularly against him as a person, but as an economist, he is certain to ruin things (as far as his publicly known statements reveal about him).

Crude oil today cost expensive. But it’s better to have your own car because you will pay much if you will commute.

There is NO way to get rid of traditional energy sources nowadays, that’s right. Everyone needs energy and businesses need money. The real problem is not in the type of energy source but in the immense consumption as it’s stated in the end of this article. However, there is no point in blaming politics or businesses. Not because they’re innocent but because they just won’t listen to you. And the more you blame them, the less responsibility you take yourself. I mean, if you’re not a politician or a businessman yourself, don’t even look at those in power. They will n o t listen.
The best cure to almost any modern problem is to reduce personal consumption. Not only consumption of fuel or energy, but ALL consumption. Less consumption = reduced power usage = less debt = less damage to the environment = healthier lifestyle = more personal control etc etc. Isn’t it a panacea, huh? Just think about it.

I saw an interesting TV show about clean coal. They way they presented it, the coal industry got together and sent people to political events, both Democrat and Republican, to get the crowd hyped up about clean coal. They would stand outside handing out gifts and information about clean coal, then the people would start talking about it, which in turn turned it into a talking point for the politicians. I think it is funny that there isn’t an actual example of it being used, because it seems that most cities are hesitant about pumping all that waste underground…

Very informative. I agree with you. As long money rules, we won’t see more carbon-free renewable energy. But there are not enough people that care about it, so there are not enough to stand up. Its a fact.

Right now is a great time to upgrade to solar, geothermal or other renewables. Before the stimulus bill it was a 30% cap up to $2000 on alternative energy upgrades. Obama lifted the cap and it is now 30% up to whatever.

Problem with Ethanol fuels as a renewable carbon free resource. When you use corn or grain to produce the ethanol fuel you leave a shortage of grain for feeding livestock. This raises the price of the commodity and could possibly cause food shortages.

Exactamundo Chris. We can’t pinch off Peter to feed Paul. Ethanol fuel is a false resource.
Only viable alternative to alternative energy are tidal/wind and solar power. Not to mention more esoteric energy sources which are on the horizon. If only the powers that be would let such technologies come to fruition.

Hey solreka this is irrelevent to this topic but I had the urge to ask you and it’s why is our conscienceness stuck in the human body why can’t we get out from a religous standpoint I thought our spirits need to be roughy a lesson and from a scientific standpoint I couldn’t think of anything because using einsteins equation E=mc2 wouldn’t that mean that our conscienceness is made into energy which isn’t contained so how does the body control the mind?

Great question Justin. If only we knew the answer, the world would be a much better place.

In germany it is even worse. Whenever the oil price is raising, the price for petrol raises as well. If the oil price is falling, the price for petrol isn’t. And on top of it there is a huge tax on it. It was interesting to see the oil and petrol price going down through the financial crisis of this year.

If the world concentrates on hitting the carbon reduction targets set then we will be in a better place. A big part of this is using and reaserching carbon free energy.
