On the subject of alternative energy, acoustic levitation has to be a viable candidate for the accolade of most amazing alternative technologies.
The video in question was filmed by Dr David Deak back in 1987. David was a former NASA employee. (Boo and hiss I hear you cry out) 
The purpose of the apparatus; to perform an experiment for ’simulated’ microgravity conditions on Earth.
That being said, the applications for such a device go way beyond trying to understand micro-gravitational environments. The current maximum amount that can be lifted by acoustic levitation is a few kilograms – link.
Meditation and acoustic harmonization
The power of sound has been known for millennia, for example meditation is based on the principle of harmonizing oneself with the higher dimensional forces of the Universe. 
One effective method for reaching such a higher state of consciousness is the art of performing mantras, the OM Mantra (or AUM Mantra). More Mantra info
Mantras, music, and sound are nothing more than vibratory oscillating atoms which sing and dance in unison with one another on the Universe’s superluminal highway. These sound waves in turn create beautiful melodic pitches which singers seem to perform so effortlessly. Or conversely the incredible Adam Lopez who holds the Guinness world record for singing the highest recorded pitch. Link.

Perhaps the integration of acoustic levitation and Zero Point Energy (ZPE) would yield some rather interesting results, or maybe attach spinning neodymium magnets to a pyramid framework and then drive the acoustic device through the golden ratio – 1.618 centre of the pyramid would produce even more wonderful results.
Maybe we could harness the power of acoustic sound manipulation to ‘encourage’, enhance the Schumann resonance.
The resonance of the Earth (Schumann Resonance) has been 7.8Hz for thousands of years. Since 1980 it has risen to over 12Hz.
The Schumann resonance is an important electromagnetic standing wave, it acts as a background frequency for the Earth and also influences biological oscillators within the mammalian brain, ref delta, theta brain wave activity. These brain waves become active during deep states of relaxation and meditation.

The future…
If we all sang in unison then the world would change for the better, not just spiritually but also physically. Mother Earth would grow in strength from the solidarity of human voices singing and rejoicing from the love we have for one another and nature.
I doubt this will happen any time soon though, too much hate going on in the world – once the Morlocks have finished killing one another, then there will be a new dawning – the Golden Age; linked to Dec 21 2012. This will be the time to rejoice and sing, to have one voice of solidarity for mankind (what’s left of mankind that is).

Ah, yes. The movie Dune comes to mind. But, was Frank Herbert that far off? I feel there is much that has been buried by the ’sands’ of time.

Correction: I was never an employee of NASA; rather I was involved with a university research group and they were asked by NASA to develop something to simulate microgravity in a lab on Earth. Ergo, I was awarded the task of doing this research. It had to levitate non-magnetic as well as magnetic materials of all categories. Tis all.
