Here’s an interesting article I came across whilst on my internet travels. The new ‘Walking Solar House‘. The concept is to allow a person to live a peaceful nomadic life… on the move by means of actuated legs attached to the housing module. Energy is collected from a variety of platforms including; solar cells and small windmills. Other eco-systems included with the portable solar house include; rain water collection and solar heated hot water. A small greenhouse can also be added to the rear of the ‘house on legs’ module.

The brainiacs over at MIT claim to have discovered a way of storing solar power. They have effectively built a sun battery.

In one hour, the amount of Sun which hits the face of the Earth would provide enough energy to power the whole World for one year.

To utilize all this ‘free and abundant energy‘, they have figured out a way of efficiently splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using Earth abundant materials. MIT also claim they can safely and easily extract hydrogen using water at atmospheric pressure and room temperature.

Building a parabolic solar oven really isn’t as difficult as it may seem, once the basics are first understood.

There are many popular solar cookers in use today, including the Sun Oven, Sports Solar Oven, and the Cookit, to name but a few. However they all adopt either the box or trough design. Very few designs are actually parabolic, those that are, are generally quite expensive like the SK-14, compared to the more popular designs. The box solar cooker for example, is simply a cardboard box with reflective panels and a pane of glass which traps hot air in a box.
