5. Catastrophic events long overdue
The good folk at The Future Watch have compiled an excellent list detailing possible catastrophic events which could happen at any time. Events such as nano-tech weapons, economic collapse, suicide by strangelet, alien attack – see Drake Equation, and many more factors just go to show how fragile the world really is.
The Drake Equation estimates that over 10,000 communicative civilizations exist in our Milky Way alone.

6. Biblical connotations
Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good an Evil, has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings.
Then we have the Christians, who believe in the second coming of Christ; the Rapture Ready brigade.
You never know, one of us might be the change or the Second Coming of Christ!
Yet another Biblical prophecy was the so-called “mark of the beast’” without which men could not buy or sell; proposed computer chip implants, the ultimate convenience in a cashless society seem to fit this one pretty well, and can serve, at the very least, to track people if not to control them.
Perhaps the world won’t end in 2012, but instead the world will become one giant sheeple Borg hive society.
7. Magnetic pole reversal
We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field. This field shields us from most of the sun’s radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so – and right now we’re about 30,000 years overdue.
Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is under way, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.
8. Population Growth
A recent population growth explosion has occurred over the last few centuries. If the exponential growth continues at this rate, then 2012 will take the form of anarchy on a scale we can only dream of in our worst nightmares.

The Drake equation attempts to estimate the number of extraterrestrial civilizations in our galaxy with which we might come into contact with. I would construe this to mean the same as your alien inter-galactic settlements pitch.

Wise words indeed. The only flaw in your statement is that you forgot about the evilness that is money. Too much greed in the world for people to want to worry about environmental issues and suchlike. They’d rather aspire to having a bigger car, house than their neighbours and live the sheeple, borg lifestyle.

I always believe that the world will end due to war resulting from human conflict. It’s never about meteor impact, magnetic pole reversal or natural disaster, things like that. Eventually it will all be up to use to decide.

Once again, spot on. I can just see it now. The greed of humanity being the end of us all. Lawlessness, looting, murder, mass mayhem. We live in such a delicate balance, one which could tilt either way at the merest of pushes. If the fat cats (Exxon, oil companies, etc) don’t start changing their ways, they may very well find themselves dealing with a mutiny by the people. Imagine if we all refused to pay for a our petrol at the petrol stations. Or if we all stood in unison and said… Enough is enough……… I can but dream

The theory that talks about the change of the poles is very interesting, certainly it could happen in a future…
The drake equation reminds me the Lost numbers, which are the core of a mathematical formula designed to predict the end of humanity =D.

Lost – ah that old chestnut. I watched the first series, then grew tiresome of it VERY quickly.
I guess if we take a step back from life, then we find that everything has a pattern to it. Some kind of reciprocating cycle, everything from nature through to design has a cycle.
I am of course talking about one of my favourite numbers… 1.61803399
The Fibonacci Number or Golden Ratio. Everything in life adheres to this rather bizarre yet beautiful number.
Go check out the hinges on one of your doors in your house. I bet you thought the hinges were equidistant from one other. Wrong…
They obey the Golden Ratio, in that their relationship follows a 1.618 ratio.
I can feel a post coming on discussing the implications of the Golden Ratio and how it correlates to the NWO, alien invasion and the very core being of life itself.

A)Haha at number 9 jessica, it gave me a big grin.
B)I have no idea which one of these will end the world, if any. I don’t really think it will be the exponential rate of increase in the population(EVERYONE ADOPT…just in case:P ). I find the theory of the poles switching to be the most intriguing/frightening.
C)I have read several different threads from this website, and have found all of them to be completely intriguing and full of people who are contributing to the topic/discussion in a positive manor. This is my new favorite site.
D) and to satisfy the Fibonacci’s number response request…i don’t know much about it. But, i am completely blown away by this concept. So here is my deep question to spark some creative minds. Do we have a free will or are all of our choices affected by a greater constant that everyone’s actions are obliged to mathematically satisfy? are we just filling our part in the greater cycle with our day to day tasks? or maybe im just being ridiculous…

I’m afraid I cannot provide the answers you seek.
Suffice to say, all I can suggest is that you start preparing for a lawless society. This includes stock piling food, getting off-the-grid, and having a defence mechanism in place.

Well i dont know what to think about this really. i watched the show on the history channel and to be honest it freaks me out.. they perdicted EVERY event up till now so i dont exactly just think this isn’t going to happen… maybe it will.. maybe it wont… there have been many things that have happened before man that have just about wiped the world clean so why are so ignorant to think it cant happen to us as well? being a mother i just pray it happends a lot further down the road. if this happens in 2012 then my daughter would only be 5 years old and i want her to live a long life. so yeah… this is kinda scary to me!

uhmm magnetic pole shift happens in a corse of 5000 years…and as it happens the magnetic field will not dissiapear comletly ever, it will just end up more complicated, such as the south pole being over africa while the north pole is in canada, quite hard to explain but this is definetly not going to kill us all, maybe just confuse for a while we wont be able to do shit with it all screwed up.
secondly the mayans calendar ends on 2012 not because its the end of the world, its actually a great day for them. they believe its when the earth and the center of the galaxy lign up together and this happens once every 26,000 years so quite a day. this is special to them cause they supposedly came from here wich i dont have trouble believing. so far what theyve told us is true, they even talked about bridges that connect galaxys and planets and thats what they used to come here. and recently weve found a sort of electric current between every planet, and these current can extend into different galaxyz. wich means we can use them to travel without any fuel whatsoever and they are even starting to think of ways to do this. one theory is a supercooled magnet.
and for nostradamus, he talks of being possed and shit when he made his predictions, also almost none come true anyways. the one that supposedly predicts the end of the world actually happens in 1999 and nothing happend then… but people change it to ll sorts of bs so just look it up urself idc. and i cant be bothered to post anymore im too lazy and tired but i can go against all reasons even though some arent really reason ill do 2 more.
the rapture and the other bible things. yeah God says the world will end like that but he also says nobody will know when the world ends except Him so stfu about shit you dont know about…

I really wish people would stop trying to predict the end of the world. If you all read and studied the bible, which is God’s word you would know this which is no one knows when the world will end. God only knows this and he has told no one nor will God tell anyone, it is in his word. So you all must stop this and just pray that whenever the time comes that you have your life in order and has received God into your life. God Bless you all.

I understand what mylala said it is true that noone really knows when the world will end. All of this is just a prediction that has been pretty much made up by man. The end of the world is being based on a calendar that was made by man. If we all recall the end of the world was predicted only a few years ago. The world was predicted the end Dec 31, 1999 do we all remember yet here we are. So I believe we should live each day of our life as if it was our last because you really never know. Let’s stop focusing so much on one day and live life to the fullest,love one another, and most important love God! Because if the world ends 3,5,10, or 200 years from now it doesn’t matter how much food you store up you won’t be here to eat it so what is the point. While Jesus gave His disciples signs to watch for that indicated His return, He stated clearly that no one knows the exact date except His Father. In Mark 13:32 we read, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Matthew’s account puts it this way, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming” (Matthew 25:13).
The Bible does not tell us the date Jesus Christ will return to save humanity from destroying ourselves. But it does promise that Christ will return and set up a government that will bring peace and prosperity to this earth. In the meantime God doesn’t ask us to explore the intricacies of ancient Mayan calendars. He warns of rampant deception and tells us not to be fooled by those who claim secret knowledge of His return (Matthew 24:4, 23-26).
What are we to do? The purpose of the biblical prophecies and warning signs is to remind us of our need to always be growing closer to God and to be spiritually ready. We need to be preparing spiritually for Christ’s return and the end of this world now, in 2012 and every year.
“Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44).

I find it hard to believe the world (as we know it) is going to end, or change in some dramatic way on December 21st 2012. Although I sure want to believe that. I’ve a “end of the world” wish.
My greatest desire is to see the world come to an end. What a show that could be (assuming you don’t die instantly) To be alive to see that, to be among the last people to walk this earth, You can’t beat that. It beats all.
You ever see that movie 2012 the guy embracing the super volcano. That would be me if faced against the end of most/all mankind. I sometimes dream about seeing the end, in some way, some are very creative and after reading this post they may become even more creative. I’m a realistic person, I dont actually think there is much chance 2012 will be a year of huge changes, but one can always hope
