Could Dec 21 2012 be the next Singularity!
As 2012 looms ever closer, there seems to be a multitude of factors which point to great changes on the horizon for mankind. The Singularity, the New Age, the New World Order, ancient prophecies and predictions – it seems that we are witnessing the culmination of a Global Paradigm Shift. Whether these changes are inextricably linked to 2012, or simply coincidence is a matter of personal conjecture.
In accordance to the Novelty Theory devised by Terrence McKenna; there are a whole host of events which are increasing at an accelerating rate. Technology, population, speed of travel, food and materials production, communications capabilities, computing power, the decrease in computer size, amount of information known to humanity, and a plethora of other things, are all increasing at an accelerating rate. That is, they are increasing in an exponential fashion..
Could Dec 21 2012 be the New Dawning for Mankind!
Some mathematicians plotted the asymptotic graphs of all of humanities technological developments and projected them out to the point where they all, relatively simultaneously, hit infinity. The day that they arrived at is December 21st, 2012. One projected date of “The Singularity.” That’s the day that some say is when everything as we know it will change… Drastically.
Now I realize that this is a mathematical model, and that things never seem to happen on time, but as a good thumbnail reference point, it makes a convenient time to aim for. There are other models, other calculations, and other dates. The idea is more important than the specific date, imho. When it comes to discussing 2012, the most popular meme currently propagating the internet, is the idea that the ancient Mayan calendar was calculated forward but ends on…you guessed it: Dec 21 2012. Scientists aren’t quite sure why that is!
The Accelerating Factor…
Essentially, if we take a look at some of the really species-changing events in our history, we see 3 really MAJOR developments that changed the entire course of human history. 1) The Agricultural Revolution. 2) The Industrial Revolution. 3) The Information Revolution.
30,000 years ago, we learned how to farm. 350 years ago, we learned how to mass-produce machines. About 50 years ago, we learned how to build computers. As you can see, the rate of change is increasing, as is the ability afforded by the change. With computers, we have the ability to build more efficient things, fly planes and spaceships, educate more people, etc. Each of these enabling technologies will build further development, and at a faster rate.
According to the mathematical model, we should see approximately sixty-one more of these species-changing developments before Dec 21 2012! All of the same magnitude as the three noted above! Again, it’s only a model, but they predict eighteen of those changes on the last day, and thirteen of those to happen in the last FRACTION OF A SECOND, as things accelerate towards that infinity point.
Technological Factors
These factors have to do with massive amounts of overlapping and interlocking technologies. For example: Nano-technology producing microscopic computers (that are millions of times faster and more powerful than the supercomputers of today) which sit inside of your cells getting rid of disease and making sure you have a proper nutritional balance, so that you can live longer. And nano-machines that make just about anything and can do it for free by re-arranging the atoms from waste products elsewhere. Or space technologies, which enable further population growth, and zero-gravity research, and practically unlimited energy and material resources from space.
These may eventually lead to things like fusion power, quantum computing, faster than light ‘tachyon’ travel, and/or teleportation technologies. While these are currently beyond the scope of our present technology, they may come about someday, and each new technology provides a stepping-stone for future development. There’s no doubt that any of the above-named developments would change the course of our evolution drastically. Much as did the Agriculture, Industry, and Computer Ages.
Perhaps 2012 could be the ultimate crossing point for humanity. Whether you choose to believe in Dec 21 2012, or not. The simple fact remains that humanity is long overdue the next great ‘leap’ in evolution.
Teleportation a reality
Physicists have carried out successful teleportation with particles of light over a distance of 600m across the River Danube in Austria. Link

What are your thoughts? Do you believe events may change drastically in the lead up to Dec 21 2012, or is it just another 14th October 2008!

Very good post. The points you compiled are just a good framework for some serious pondering. I’d sure like to read more about all this.
Thanks

The 2012 date was made up by the Mexican government to confuse people about Mayan history. The Mayans ended their calendar in 2011…

Great post, I have never heard a realistic connection of 2012 to modern society. usually it’s like some conspiracy/mayans thing which is automatically dismissed by most people regardless of truth.

Hi Survival Spot
I agree, many people talk about the Mayan prophecy, which I frankly hold little belief in. However, I do think there will a shift in our consciousness come 2012. It’s starting to happen now.
It may be simply a fact of belief. If you accept changes then you may be affected, but for the sheeple, they will see, hear, and feel no change.
This is of course conjecture. So make what you will of my personal feelings regarding Dec 21 2012.
Thanks for dropping by.

“…Some mathematicians plotted the asymptotic graphs …”
Their results were so astounding, so important, so ground breaking… that you don’t name them.
I wonder why this is?
Also, what exactly does “hit infinity” mean? Apart from attempt to sound impressive.

@Widgetas
I agree the phrase ‘hit infinity’ is somewhat misleading. It should have read; when all technologies reach the apex of the exponential curve.
Here is a rather daunting graph, which clearly shows, how much of a non-sustainable world we are all living. It is clear that we cannot keep going as we are. We are on the cusp of great changes.

Of course, all of these points are mere conjecture, and as such, you can dispel my opinions as utter nonsense, or maybe there could be a modicum of truth behind what is stated. The choice is left to you, the reader, to disseminate fact from fiction.

I have to admit that I have only just become aware of the prophecies of 2012, been in the “dark” (as in dark matter/energy) for too long.
I have personally believed for a long time now that the human race are on the precepis of something great or not as the case may be. We are starting to understand a lot more and learn even more. Even more interesting is the fact that we are already changing the way we think about our surroundings and how what we can and cant see work together.
We still have a massive long way to go and are in danger of getting there faster than we need to. Take the LHC for example, it can potentially teach us great things like identifying the pure energy particle but at the same time bring into light the negetive energy particle that we all know could end it for us all and even statrt to undo the fabric of our universe and the other universes around us.
What I am trying to say is that we are not ready for these discoveries and changes yet and are still “cavemen” playing with fire. We can see the benefits directly for us but can not yet see the dangers also.
I also feel that there are many other factors in science yet to be further discovered and explored before we can start to live in harmony with our surroundings. Light as a reusable free energy resource, water as a free energy resource, and we need to loose the ideas that restarin our current thinking and start from a blank canvas only using the knowledge we know now as reference instead of restricting our way of thinking and understanding.
I am nearly 40 years old and consider myself quite knowledgable as an adult but my son is 8 years old and he has a clearer grasp on many scientific theories than I do and I believe this is because he is less knowledgable than I. In this I mean his mind is unpolluted with waht we consider knowledge.
great site by the way.

@stakker1007
hey man i get where you are coming from but this is kind of a stab in the dark going for i don’t know much about this but i look at big pictures and love this kind of stuff but with the LHC unless we are the first or second intellectual species then you would think that somewhere else in the universe that some alien race would have tried making something similar to the LHC or even the LHC so really i don’t think we have to worry about it tearing apart our universe and other universes

This industrial revolution that we have now using industrial machineries is really one of the greatest achievements of man. Before we know how to do farming the basic ways. Man has to do something to make lives better. This is the effect of the struggle; industrial revolution.

Maya civilization knew some advanced aspects of the universe, as other ancient civilizations. This has just one explanation: someome from abroad gave them the information. Someone from a more advanced planet.
These antique sociaties of the earth had a right calendar and a right knowlegment of the stars and planets. And they said that the human kind will feel a great change at the end of 2012 due to the influence of Nibilum (we can call him Marduk, Hercobulus, Ajenjo, and other 60 names depending on what civilization we talk about). If they were right in other elements, I guess they will be right about this.
The global goberment won´t tell us anything about this to avoid the social caos and they are preparing for our incoming encounter with the 10th planet of the solar sistem.
I would like to recomend in this site the books of Zecharia Sitchin. I´ve readed all of them. It represented a fine line that put together all the matters I liked since I was a kid: extraterrestrials visits in the past and now, objects out of place and time, advanced technologies in the history, etc.
Please sorry about my english skill, I¨m spanish, and I don´t write in english usually.
Greatings from Madrid and feep on this interesting site.
